When I got my first digital camera, a pocket size Canon point-and-shoot in high school, I was experimenting with panoramic shots almost right away. This was years before the first iPhone came out and any smartphone had panoramic capability. I was trying to see how much I could capture in one composited frame, to see how big of a canvas I could fill. From there, I progressed from stitching a few shots together in strips to doing full horizontal 360° cylinders, and now to complete 360°x180° spheres.
As an Architect, there’s a highly practical use to photography as a method of documentation when beginning a project. As a photographer though, Architecture interests me in how it is the step beyond documenting reality to analyzing it and then creating a new reality.
